School history at your position

See how many players stayed or left, the size of the sample, and how past rosters help estimate openings at your position.

What left before graduating means

We compare consecutive seasons of school rosters and link the same athlete across them. A player who appears at the same school the next season stayed. A player found at another school transferred. A departing senior or graduate is counted as graduated. A player missing from the next collected roster who was not in a departing class is counted as left. Left before graduating combines left and transferred. These are inferred outcomes, not confirmations from the athlete; a missing name can also reflect incomplete records.

Read the count with the confidence

“No departures recorded among 7” means seven player-season observations with known outcomes, not proof that nobody will leave next year. One athlete can appear in more than one season. Small samples can miss the changes that happen at a school.

High confidence requires at least two pairs of consecutive collected seasons and at least twelve labeled player-seasons at the position. Medium confidence requires at least one consecutive pair and at least six labeled player-seasons. Smaller samples with a known outcome have low confidence. Without any known outcomes, school history is unavailable.

How likely openings are estimated

For each returning player on the live roster, we look at the share of players in that class and position who previously left before graduating. We add those chances together. A result such as 2.3 is an estimate, not a promise of two or three roster spots.

We use the school's rate when that class and position has at least eight known outcomes. Otherwise we use the division's rate. If any player needs a rate that is unavailable, we leave the estimate unknown. A division average label means at least one class used the division's history.

What the season table shows

The table counts the roster at your position by class and shows inferred outcomes for that season. Came in counts athletes who were not at this school in the previous season; incoming upperclassmen are the transfer-in group. A dash means the previous season was not collected, so arrivals cannot be counted reliably. Left and transferred are separate columns; both contribute to the departure sentence. Unknown means the outcome could not be inferred.

When an archived roster is used

An archived roster is a dated copy of the school's own roster page. When the live page could not be read, Mosaic can use the newest archived roster to estimate returning depth and playability. The reason names its season so you can judge its age. It is a historical snapshot, not a current roster confirmation.
