Where Mosaic’s data comes from
Every number on a report traces back to one of the sources below. Each one shows how many of the schools it actually covers and when it was last updated. Where a source is thin, the report says No data rather than guessing.
What the AI does
Two narrow jobs, both working only from information already on the page.
Mosaic uses AI in two places, and nowhere else. It does not decide your fit score, your tier, or how open a position is — those are arithmetic on the data below.
AI roster reading
Roster pages are laid out differently at every school, so Mosaic hands the page text to an AI model and asks it to return the players as a list. The model only reformats what is already on the page; it is never asked to add a player.
The model can misread an unusual layout — a coach counted as a player, a position abbreviated oddly. A page it cannot read returns an empty list, which shows as No data rather than an empty roster.
AI school notes
The two-sentence note under each school on a report. Mosaic gives the model only the facts already on the card — division, location, the factors that scored well, and the playability read — and asks it to say them in a sentence or two.
The phrasing is the model's, so it can read as more confident than the underlying data deserves. Treat a note as a summary of the numbers beside it, never as a new fact about the school.
Competitive tiers
Each program has a five-tier competitive level based on its conference and division, unless an admin has set a school-specific override.
- Tier 1 · SEC, ACC, Big Ten · 90-100
- Tier 2 · Mid-major D1, elite JUCO · 80-89
- Tier 3 · Low D1, high D2, top NAIA · 70-79
- Tier 4 · Low D2, high D3, standard NAIA · 60-69
- Tier 5 · Standard D3, regional JUCO · 50-59
School list
The list of colleges Mosaic scores: every NCAA, NAIA, and junior college baseball program in the states on the school list. Name, city, state, division, and conference come from the published institution lists.
Every school on the list is in the database.
College facts
Size, cost, admission rate, majors offered, campus setting, religious affiliation, and map coordinates for each school. This is the federal government's own data on every college in the country.
Net price by income band 501/508. Religious affiliation reads "none" when the federal record says the school has no affiliation, which is an answer, not a gap.
Athletics websites
The address of each school's athletics website and, inside it, the page that lists the baseball roster. Mosaic looks the school up on ncaa.com, then tries the usual roster addresses until one answers.
Roster pages found: 473 of 508 (NCAA D1 109/109, NCAA D2 75/75, NCAA D3 215/232, NAIA 10/11, JUCO 64/81).
Team rosters
Who is on each roster right now: name, position, and class year. Mosaic checks every roster page once a day and only re-reads a page that has changed. This is what playability — how open your position looks — is built on.
608 roster pages fetched, 608 read, 227 produced no players. 368 schools on the current season; 13 schools waiting.
Climate
Whether a campus counts as cold, moderate, or warm. Mosaic works this out from the school's latitude: at or above 41 degrees north is cold, 37 to 41 is moderate, below 37 is warm.
A school gets a climate label as soon as it has map coordinates.
AI roster reading
Roster pages are laid out differently at every school, so Mosaic hands the page text to an AI model and asks it to return the players as a list. The model only reformats what is already on the page; it is never asked to add a player.
12 pages were read but produced no players.
AI school notes
The two-sentence note under each school on a report. Mosaic gives the model only the facts already on the card — division, location, the factors that scored well, and the playability read — and asks it to say them in a sentence or two.
1054 notes written so far. A school gets one the first time it appears near the top of someone's report.
Dining, housing, and campus life
Dining quality, housing, and what campus life is like. Not collected yet, so these factors are left out of every school's score and show as gray tiles on a report.
Not collected yet.
Who starts
Returning starters are marked from last season's games started and pitching innings on school sites. Freshmen and transfers in have no line yet.
10434 roster players have a starter decision from season statistics.
